Solidarity Again

As you know, I'm married now. But it just so happens that marriage does not scare away all rejection forever. Married people still face rejection in buckets although Single people don't always realize this. And for this reason, I drag myself to the computer to tell you whenever I've had a manuscript rejected.

Today I had a manuscript rejected.

This morning's rejection was a particularly ill-timed one, I must say, although that isn't anybody's fault. And the reasons for the rejection were understandable, although by the moral criteria of the editors, almost everything by Graham Greene, Evelyn Waugh and Muriel Spark, plus a good chunk of Morley Callaghan and Piers Paul Read also would have been rejected. This makes me feel better and worse by turns.

Anyway, I carried a printed copy of manuscript to Mass in a yellow bag with "Papal Visit to the UK Pilgrim Pack" (a yellow bag) written on it and sent it off to the next name on my list.

The only way to deal with rejection is to keep on going.

Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love.

I think this holds true for artistic rejection as well. Most of us have probably never met you, but you and your auntly wisdom are very dear to us, Seraphic.
Best luck.

So sorry to hear about the rejection, Seraphic--but what great faith it shows, that you brought the MS to Mass with you and sent it on. I hope Our Lady's hand is guiding it to someone receptive.

I was feeling particularly rejected today too. I called my best girlfriend thousands of miles away who is dealing with her slightly crazy in-laws and their Christmas plans. She is feeling rejected too. We both laughed and feel a bit better.

The truth is rejection surrounds us in many ways. What a fitting day that today is Our Lady's feast of the Immaculate Conception. So in honor of that I am handing off all of my rejection to a girl's BFF, our Mother.

Hang in their and keep writing. I love your outlook on life.

First time poster, Ellie

Courage, bella! I'm glad you are pressing on, as I'm sure are all your other readers :)

Thank you for all these nice comments! It is easier to press on when we all press on together.

I for one am so impressed that you managed to horrify prudish editors with the "comparative" immorality of your manuscript. Since I have read you long enough to know that you would never write anything really wicked, the thought that you have still pulled off a rejection on those grounds makes the rebellious side of me, the side that thinks Christians are sometimes far too uptight, want to applaud and throw roses. I think the editors in question do not deserve you!

Oh, dear. Hugs?

As always, I'm hoping that you'll find the publisher version of B.A., preferably sooner rather than later. :)
