Today I Miss My Friends

Today is one of those days when I contrast the busy, scholarly life I had in Toronto--packed with students, family and friends--with the much quieter, rather isolated life I live in Scotland.

Tell me what holiday japes you've been sharing with your friends or plan to share with your friends in the next two weeks.

Well, this Christmas day will probably be quiet, lonely and poor for me. But I still have the love of Chirst, and that is all I need. And on the 27th I will fly out to meet the man I love and we will go away and celebrate Christmas again together!

The past couple weeks at the boarding school and church I work for, have been spent caroling out in the bitter cold of the midwest, decorating and baking and eating huge amounts of candy and cookies.

And now I've come back home to be with my family while the kids are on break and will probably just spend most of the Holiday at home with my family, and maybe catch up with a few friends before I go back. :)

Let's see, I was at a quiet little party Friday night and another quiet little party yesterday. Both lots of sitting around and talking and eating cookies.

Now that I live 1,000 miles away from home, I only get to see most of my college friends once a year - that time this year is tomorrow night, when a group of us will be meeting up for dinner, yay!! :)

Well, things have been really good on the friend front around here in the past week.

I wrote a long letter to a recently-married friend who's spending Christmas abroad.

I threw a party on Friday: a dozen people, a variety of fancy snacks, a few bottles of champagne. So that was fun.

I had brunch on Sunday with a NAB. I think he's just a friend, but brunch is always a good idea.

And I had a long lunch and commiseration today with a lovely Searching Single.

I'm sorry you're missing your friends, Seraphic. Skype?

It's a busy break for me! I flew in on Thursday afternoon, caught a movie with friends on Friday, went to a guitarist singer-songwriter friend's show at a local bar (with my family) on Saturday, had brunch after Mass on Sunday, went ice skating for a birthday Sunday night, and traipsed through NYC with my friend Anne (also your reader) today.

You are in my prayers. The nice thing about coming home briefly is that my time is always packed! :)

Oh Seraphic! It's going to be so busy! Today and Tuesday I'm near my old university with lots of college friends having various Christmas gatherings. Then I fly to see my parents and sisters and visit with more people, and visit the Harry Potter theme park, before returning back home for a hopeful New Year's and Rose Bowl party!!
Merry, merry Christmas to you and B.A.
(incidentally, I watched Brigit Jones again last night, and as much as I love the movie (and the book), I couldn't help tallying up all the ways in which Brigit is not Seraphic, and how they lead to her unhappiness)

Miss Jones is loveable and hilarious but not very bright. She is certainly not Seraphic, but if she had me to sort her out, we wouldn't have the wonderful books.

I threw a party for my friends last weekened. Christmas celebrations from now on will be family-oriented - tea, the museum, games, movies, and Christmas Day. My sister will be coming up for the holidays, so I'm looking forward to that as I've only seen her once in the last year.

Sorry, everyone. Usually I intercept comments that personal and disturbing. I must have hit the wrong button.
