Good Single Life News, Please!

Recently I listened to a lawyer describe the injuries done to a Single NCB by an intoxicated (and not particularly penitent-looking) crook. This morning I discoverd that a Single NCG I admire has cancer. There is no obvious reason why she has cancer; it is probably because she is over 40. I am in need of cheering up.

Therefore, it would be very nice if readers would publish any good news in the commbox, with one caveat:

No dating or boyfriend/girlfriend stuff.

If you just got engaged, great. But other than that, I don't want to hear about dates, flirtations, winkies, encouragement or anything else that plays into society's obsession with sexual attraction. I am WAY too cranky for that today.

I want to hear the large or small triumphs of your lives as Singles (not just sexual subjects), please, or (if Married) as ordinary, supposedly boring Married people.

Hi Seraphic! My big good news is that after 3 months of unemployment I now have 2 very good job offers waiting for a reply (today! eek!) in my inbox! Both involve major moves etc so prayers as to a good decision would be appreciated!

My purchase of a new flat is almost complete. Have a new job in the pipeline which will be a change of direction for me but a very exciting one. Liverpool beat United last Sunday (what do you mean that doesn't count? - it was a triumph for me!!)
@Urszula - prayers for the best decision!

I picked up old copies of an exam I was dreading and now I'm feeling slightly better about it. It looks like I can spend part of my summer with my parents. I got to go to Ash Wednesday mass in the EF yesterday.

I am blessed with great coworkers! Lent is a busy, stressful time for people who work in parishes, so I'm glad our staff is so upbeat :-)

And my sister's university spring break is next week and she'll be coming to stay with me for a few days!

Not sure if I told you, but I moved to [big city] a couple of months ago to train with a dance company. I'm still looking for a full-time job (the dancing is only part-time), but I LOVE the dance company. I always wanted to dance professionally, but never thought it would happen. And here I am living the dream!

I am getting a job in FRANCE. It's still a bit tentative, but if all goes right, I'll be spending a year in the heart of the Loire Valley, sipping lattes in Tours and touring French chateaux by September. :)

I finally made my apartment orderly after moving several months ago-and behold: an benefactor gave me 4 pieces of furniture! They are just what I would have bought if I could afford them. I am nowhospitable as only a single can be-several 'girls nights' for university friends are planned, and I hosted my godson's family overnight.

My mom is coming for a visit today! My folks live 4 hours away, which isn't anything like a plane ride, but is far enough (what with younger siblings and ours being a 1-bedroom) that this is the first time since we were married last summer that she's been able to come and see it! My youngest brother is coming, too, and after spending the morning chatting we have great plans to spend the afternoon watching movies. I'm excited. :D

I purchased a house in a perfect-for-me location and am in the middle of renovations, favorite one: turning the walkout basement into a sewing studio! It looks like I'll be able to move in just after Easter. Best of all, it's just two houses away from my parents and sisters!

I have been working on writing a small book for the better part of a year, and it is finally coming together! It is due to the printer within the week and I absolutely cannot wait to finally see it in print. This will be the highlight of my month! (I'm sure you can relate!)

Hope you're feeling cheered up, Auntie! :)

I finished the outline for my undergrad thesis today. 2 months and 4 days to graduation!

Also, I get to see my baby sister today. My favorite part of being a single college student: Getting to dote on her because I don't have a lot of real grown-up responsibilities yet. (Someday, I will need to pay for my own food and then I will not be able to buy her presents on a whim.)

I have coffee! I was at a delightful Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner party on ... er... when was that? And Easter is coming, don't forget that!

I have really good friends and family who have just made me make a huge decision, driving me towards holiness. I am so blessd that in my Singleness I still have people who anchor me in Christ. Hooray! And I have a cranberry-orange muffin for free, sitting on my desk.....

Three of my best and oldest friends, who I haven't seen in almost two years, have driven 8 hours and are visiting me this weekend. I am so happy to see them!!

Maggie is my big sister and yeah, we're going to hang out and have a grand old time next week! Yesterday was kind of one of the best days ever - as a music student I've been required to take music theory, sight-singing and aural skills since freshman year AND I FINISHED THE SEQUENCE WITH AWESOME GRADES YESTERDAY!! I'm so proud and happy to be done with that and focus on what I really want to do! :)

I just finished a class in heirloom sewing at a local quilt shop and have discovered the blessing of sewing with other ladies who love working with fabric as much as I do and who have welcomed me into their group. And yesterday we carpooled to the garment district in L.A. where I bought silk dupioni -- something I would never have been able to do by myself because I'm a driving wimp (not to mention scared of going to strange places in cities).

Ahhhhh! That's nice! What interesting lives you all have. Ginger, I am unclear as to what job in France requires you to sip lattes and tour chateaux, but it all sounds amazing!

What talented readers! I should demand good news more often!!!

Heh. I'll be a full time nanny/English teacher, with weekends off. I'll be filling my weekends to the brim with those things. :)

Everyday I get news reports from the most Seraphic of Singles - my lovely young music students! Here is a selection:
Today is Ash Wednesday! - Miss Six
I went to the blue mountains with my dad to do meditation - Miss Seven
I have two chickens at home and their eggs make pancakes bright yellow - Miss Eight
We won soccer on Saturday - Mr Nine

My students always remind me of the good things in life!

Good news is very welcome, especially for us Philadelphia Catholics who've had a rough week. So on to the good news: Tomorrow is payday, and also my great-aunt's 88th birthday. She's a nun (living in a religious retirement community now). I hope her b-day card arrived, and I'm looking forward to calling her tomorrow.

Also, my younger sister who lives in Virginia is coming for a visit this weekend! Yay!

Hi Seraphic!

I hope that your tomorrow is happier. Fish Friday - how can one not be happy about that (mmm...fish and chips).

Like Aussie girl, my piano students remind me of the simple joys in life. Today, one young girl came in and played me a charming song that she made up. Another tried to wiggle his way out of learning a piece and we had fun negotiating (I think I got the better deal).

My dog made me grin like a maniac because he was working at his store of prizes with gusto, helping students pick out prizes (and taking the prizes he wanted to keep for himself).

My hairdresser gave me a fabulous "vacation at home" idea (Banff Hot Springs and sushi), which my friends and I are eagerly planning.

My good news is that the tsunami, which is expected to hit in a few hours or so, is not expected to impact my area - at least according to the latest forecast (I am on high ground and my house on bedrock).

Can you please pray for the people in the Aleutian Islands of AK though - parts of AK have been upgraded to a warning vs a watch (which means a wave *has* been generated according to the deep ocean buoys, just don't know how high). I am praying for 6 inches or less - especially for the islands.

I'm getting to this all a little late but my good news is that I'm going on a work related trip and that is made a million and two times easier by the fact that I don't have a husband or family. There is so much less to stress about for me than for my married coworkers!
