Lest We Forget

Today I am not only in mourning for the actual lives lost in the terror attacks, but now that we can look back on 12 years, we can see how that one day changed America probably forever, and sent us into a tailspin of war, suspicion, governmental babysitting, and economic failure.

Aside from the grief for the actual people, I feel grief for what my country became in the wake of it. Maybe the stage was set already and all America's current problems were inevitable. But 9-11 was, in the real, non-hypothetical narrative, the catalyst for them.

Sigh. I hope no one blames me for my sour mood, and maybe the emotional impact is just manifesting itself in a different way this year, but today I can't help but feeling today like the terrorists won.

I'm going to say a bunch of prayers for the 2,998 victims today, and also for the future of America.

Thank you for this. I almost did forget.

Auntie Seraphic, as an American, I just wanted to say thanks for remembering. It's lovely to know I wasn't the only one thinking about this today on our side of the Atlantic.
