Michaelmas Celebrations

Today is the Feast of Saint Michael and the fourth anniversary of Benedict Ambrose being received into the Church! It is thus also close to the fourth anniversary of when I first arrived in Scotland.

We are soon going to Mass in the city, but first I will post up photos of the Historical House. So that you don't splatter coffee all over your screens, you should remember that we live in the attic. It is a nice attic, but it is not Downton Abbey.

(Update [Sunday]: Photos removed. I honestly had no idea people would be able to find out my address on the internet just from me putting up the photos! Guess how I feel now. I mean, we have a state of the art security system, but still...it's my home. Live and learn. Thanks to the reader who let me know.)

Update: We have returned from the city! Highlights include one baptism according to the Old Rite, one Mass in celebration of the Feast of Saint Michael according to the Old Rite and one boozy lunch with B.A. in a small French restaurant

B.A.: Daring, your mantilla is stuck to the bottom of your shoe.

Seraphic (boozily): Och! So it is!

I have been pondering Charming Disarray's thoughts on the dark side of Traddyism (which I call Tridism, myself), and it makes me think some boys have Lost the Plot, although all the Trid boys I have met in Edinburgh, Rome, and South Bend are marvellous. I will have a think and maybe come up on a subject of what to do about carnaptious or merely froward Trids/Trads.

What a lovely house--and those dramatic steps are made even more dramatic in the photo by your presence--and the wind in your hair! (How on earth did you set that up so perfectly?)

Congratulations and happy annniversaries all around!

That is GORGEOUS!!! Thank you for these pics!!

How many rooms are there?? How big are the grounds(you measure land in hectares not acres, right??)?

And I love that your dining room has a round window. I hope that you have a cleaning staff to keep the place presentable...

WHOA

And I love your hair. Do you ever run around the grounds and pretend you're Helena Bonham Carter in Twelfth Night?

Staff? Staff? Noooo! Totally impossible to get staff since the Great War, as they have all taken factory jobs, drat their eyes!

Actually, there is a small army of conservators and specially-trained housekeepers for all the rooms below us, but the attic is up to B.A. and me.

80+ acres!

Wow!!! Does anyone live in the rest of the house? How does one get to live in such a gorgeous place? (not to be nosy, just very curious.)

Seraphic said...

The short answers are: it depends on who is staying with us, and B.A. is a sort of museum curator.

Seraphic said...

Oh, and the rest of the house is open to the public between Good Friday and mid-October. So

WOW!!! And so many wonderful things to be celebrated! :D

Please promise that if you ever dress up like Lady Mary Crawley that you will post more pics. :-P

Um, can I come live with you? I'd be your "staff." I mean, I can... dust...

:P

But seriously, wow, that's beautiful.

Re: Bad Trad Boys... Until recently I attend the Latin Mass and had a rather low opinion of all but a few Trad boys and had felt resigned that I would not ever find a spouse among them. However, the Trad boys in Germany-- from the mid teens I know to the early-30s singles I know-- are just wonderful. Take that, Mr. I Want A Bride From East Europe, because I'm Miss I Want a Groom From Central Europe.

Offhand, I'd say the Groom from Central Europe plan is a good one. Western Europe is good too. Scotland, for example! :-D

Oh dear. I didn't know people could Google houses. I'll have to take the more iconic photo down. It's tantamount to publishing my address on the internet, as no sane woman wants to do.

Oh,too bad the pictures had to come down. (I understand perfectly, of course!) I'm glad I caught the pictures before,as they were beautiful.

I'm glad I saw the picture before it was taken down as well. I love Downton Abbey, and while I wouldn't like to live across the pond myself, it's nice to see thriving history! :)

Looking forward to what you have to say on the Trid/Trad topic. Since I've spent most of my life immersed in Latin Mass culture, it's basically impossible for me to write about it objectively. I always like hearing a different perspective.

Oh no. I missed the picture. :(

I mean I know that Google is awesome and creepy at the same time because of how awesome it is.....but I didn't know that you could take a picture and use it to find a place!! I am so glad that I got to see it before they were taken down!!
