Cherubs! There are so many of you, which is in itself delightful. But it would be even more delightful if you would all go en mass to Ignatius Press and pre-order my beautiful (and controversial) Ceremony of Innocence at once. Over six hundred pre-orders all at once would certainly create a feeling of joy and hope in some San Franciscan bosoms. I imagine them gathering around the water cooler to say that taking a chance on that Seraphic Singles woman was perhaps not so crazy after all.
The websale price is $16.96, which seems ridiculously low for a hardcover book. My feelings were an eeny bit hurt when I saw it because in Canada hardcover books cost at least $30, so what is with this $16.96? But at any rate it means that even female grad students eeking out a living on your woeful stipends can afford it.
(If there's an issue with shipping because you are in Ireland or Australia or wherever, then I suggest you email Ignatius and tell them you thirst for this book, and ask how can you get it without having to pay so much for shipping.)
Not only will it be a good read, it may very well create a buzz, and I am sure you will want to add to the buzz as expert witnesses, since you read my stuff every day. You can say things like, "But she never has stuff like that on her blog!" and "Personally I think it's okay to have swear words in a book if they're in German."
Meanwhile I have always noticed with awe the influence Seraphic Singles readers have in terms of getting the word out. For example, some enterprising and Polish-speaking soul contacted Homo Dei in Poland to demand to know when Anielskie Single would be released, and this rather impressed Homo Dei. One little email made them sit up and take notice and feel that maybe they had backed a winner. When I show up in Kraków, they feed me cookies.
So thank you very much, and tell me if you ordered it already so I can heap my smiles upon you.

I will start the bandwagon rolling today. Woo hoo! Just ordered my book.
Yay! I heap smiles upon you!!!
I've already preordered mine.

I heap smiles upon you!
Already ordered it! :)
Just ordered mine!
Also, I would just like to mention that yesterday at Mass I unexpectedly saw a former crush of mine (I say former, it isn't really as former as I would like to think). Rather than deliberately placing myself in his path and making a point of talking to him after Mass as I would have done before, I told myself that he's seen me at one thing or another on and off for 15 years, and if he ever has any interest in me then he will track me down and I went straight to my car.
This new thought process is entirely thanks to you, Auntie Seraphic, and I very much appreciate it!
Smiles on Jen! Smiles on Rose! Smiles, smiles, smiles!
(Good work, Rose, re: thought process! If he wants to talk to you, he can darned well call or text or email or send a pigeon with a note attached to its leg!)
I haven't pre-ordered it yet but I plan to - have lots of travel coming up in the next few months and a good read would be lovely :)
You can hopefully still heap a few smiles on me as I shamelessly identify myself as the person who contacted Homo Dei ;)
A heap of smiles for Urzula and a virtual cookie!
I pre-ordered! Despite the shipping costs, which are quite low compared to sending a small parcel (package?) by mail from Germany to Switzerland (30-40 US-$), because Switzerland is a crazy country which doesn't belong to the EU and doesn't want any foreign products sent there.
I mostly pre-ordered just now so I could write a totally unrelated post without bad conscience. I just wanted to share that I had a wonderfully peaceful “single” day. First, I went to the farmer’s market in front of my house to buy the week’s supply of vegetables (organic and fresh from the field/greenhouse, you can keep everything, even lettuce, for a week and it keeps fresh!). Then I called my mother and talked to her for an hour. Then I put my new rocking chair on the balcony and sat in the warm spring sun, reading. I could hardly remember what the sun looks like, because it was hidden behind clouds and fog almost every day since October. Then, because it was such a gloriously sunny day, I got my bicycle and went on a big tour. I live in the “flat” part of Switzerland north of the Alps, but behind my village there is a nice “hill” rising a few hundred metres of altitude, and up there I [went] dragged myself. On top, there was a gorgeous view. I could look right into Germany (saw the snow-covered tops of the Schwarzwald and waved a little bit at my home country). Cycling back home, I had a panoramic view of the Alps, also snow-covered, against a deep blue sky, and very impressive. I had picked a lot of wild garlic, so I spent the evening telephoning my sister to talk about what to do with it and preparing wild-garlic-pesto which I just now finished eating together with spaghetti and salad. Oh, and when I went shopping in the morning, I bought two flower boxes for my balcony, two sacks of potting soil and several flowers and herbs to plant into the boxes. Spring can come!
I don’t know if this is interesting for anyone. I just feel so pleasantly exhausted and sun-soaked and happy.
I sent you smiles to follow the sun! It was the first day of spring here, too. It was a long time in coming!!!
Actually, $16 USD is pretty typical for a hardcover novel. The very most I have EVER IN MY LIFE spent on a book was on a 700 page hardcover Thomas Sowell economics book for $40.
So it's a good thing it's not $30, because spending $30 on a book would be, for most Americans, a little outrageous. As it is, I will preorder once I am back in the States this summer.
Another reason to love payday: I got to preorder Auntie's book! Can't wait!
Marvellous! That's the spirit! I heap smiles on you, too!
By the way, quite unlike my blog, my book is not just for girls. Things blow up. People die. Young men rant. Neo-nazis attack foreigners over here, and so-called anti-fascists attack police over there. It's all very violent and political. And there's drugs and football.
Took me three days to run it past the budget, but it's officially on pre-order. The book looks fantastic from the synopsis, and the great thing about pre-orders is that it feels like Christmas when the package magically shows up at one's door months later. I'm excited. :D
I send you smiles from Edinburgh!
Erm. Delayed catch... that first line should've said "Took me three days to remember to run it past the budget"... I was just trying to explain why I didn't get my order in the day of your post. The book's not that expensive, and I'm not that poor. :P
