WA-HA-HA!

Forward, into the 1970s!

This is the funniest thing I have seen in ages, so I had to put it up. Yes, today's Catholic woman: mini-kilts and clerical drag.

Note very especially the part about ignoring St. Paul. ("I can lead the way.") And also the slam on the Pope. And the suggestion St. Therese of Lisieux would have anything to do with this video. And the by-the-way rejection of priestly celibacy.

Note also the righteous geek hopping around with the girlies. I am trying to imagine what the Young Fogeys would say about him, but drawing a blank, so if any of the eavesdroppers have thoughts they would like to express about the lone male participant in this video, they are welcome for once to leave comments.

"Catholic" is not an ethnic group. Priesthood is not a "male-dominated career." Women can't be priests; men can't be mothers. A woman--Mary-- has already received the highest calling a mere human being could ever have. Try to be content with that, read Mulieris Dignitatem (and maybe this) and have a nice day.

Clericalists!
H/T Gregory di Pippo and Father Z.

Update: "Wait until the end," I said.

"Wait," said B.A. "This is REAL?"

I thought it was a parody of the cause... :-\ in that light, it was pretty funny, especially because as a supporting argument it doesn't make much sense to knock the Bible while seeking a leadership position as a Christian...

*until the end - I didn't think they were serious until I saw the end bit about it.

I was thinking it was a parody too, until the end, when I realized, "Gosh, they are actually serious". I would think that, in order to convince Catholics to change millennia of Sacred Tradition, you would put forth a better argument than "who really listens to St. Paul anyway? You ought to do what I want because I say so."

Love how they thank St. Thomas Episcopal Church for their support.

I suppose that's who is "schmoozing" them.

Listen, St. John's Episcopalian on Edinburgh's Princes Street has now got up an anti-Catholic, anti-Anglican and anti-Evangelical in General poster up outside the church. The Anglican bishop is saying "No women bishops" even though the Anglican bishops said "Yes" and it was the Anglican laity who didn't say...er, Yes enough, the Catholic cardinal is saying "No gay people", which is simply ridiculous, and the Evangelical says something that may be a moronic double entendre. I'm not sure. Anyway, this whole ecumenical thing is a load of hooey, unless it's a crazy Trad Catholic sitting down with a lovely Free Prebyterian for several cups of coffee, a bun and a lot of chatter!

It might not be the most charitable assumption, but I imagine that the geeky guy is the boyfriend of one of the kilted ladies--or wants to be.

BWHAHAHAHA. Wow. I thought I'd heard all the spoofs of that song... but I guess this isn't a spoof.

HOLY COW.

No words, no words!

(Except: Where did you find this, Seraphic?!?)

That looks suspiciously like the campus of Boston College...

Hip, that is actually pretty charitable in my books.

I found this video on Facebook, attached to a link to Father Z.

April, I know why you're thinking that and no doubt this song will resound through a quad or two as members of the lovely Thomas More Society cringe, but actually it was shot at an Episcopalian Church in Washington, D.C.

Oh. Wow.

So, if we're throwing St Paul and his teachings out the window, how much of the Bible are we keeping? And as for that bit about the Pope, I have to wonder if they would ever be happy under a male leader even if the church let these women have their way.

On a mostly unrelated note, my father's uncle is a priest, and he has just been admitted to hospital and diagnosed with liver cancer, all in the last 24 hours, so would you please keep him in your prayers.

Seraphic said...

Yes, I am sure those of us who read your comment will pray for him.

Maybe he wants men to be able to be women priests too!

Also, powder blue is not a proper liturgical colour.

How we can take them seriously when they are so funny?

Lena said...

Also, why is that one girl wearing white knee socks over black tights? And why didn't the dance group center itself over the labrynth? And how do you spell that word anyway?

Seraphic said...

Lena, speaking from a nation where girls habitually wear black tights with shorts, I suspect it was to make her thighs look thinner. Of course, a more charitable assumption is that it was an impulse towards modesty.

I wonder who the grown-up lady was, and if she is the influence upon the young women. But even she is twenty or thirty years younger than the average excommunicated womynpriest.

What I discovered from studying theology, is that if you study classical theology--the real, solid stuff--you become intellectually impatient with all the loosey-goosey self-oriented "I feel" stuff. And you definitely employ a hermeneutic of suspicion towards people who say "Ignore Saint Paul" and dismiss the author of Ordinatio Sacerdotalis as "some pope in a hat."

And if you go to the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, it cannot escape your attention that that lady is wearing the stole outside that chasuble, shame, shame, boo hiss!

The funniest thing is that on their website there is a FAQ page about the video - with someone asking "Where did you get the vestments" - the answer is from a local costume place which mysteriously shut down soon after. Heh.
